Why Are Most Magicians Broke when Magic Is an Entertaining Profession?

There are a few reasons why most magicians are broke when magic is an entertaining profession. The most common reason is that most magicians rely on their income from magic shows and performances to support their lifestyles. This can quickly become a problem if the magician isn’t able to consistently earn a living from their magic. Another issue is that many magicians don’t have any real skill or talent when it comes to magic. This means that they need to put in a lot of hard work in order to be successful. Finally, many magicians end up spending a lot of money on magic supplies and materials. This can be a costly habit, and if the magician isn’t able to make money from their magic, they may end up losing money on their supplies.

Why are most magicians broke when magic is an entertaining profession?

When people think of the word “magician,” the first thing that comes to mind is probably someone who can make people do magic tricks. But the truth is, being a magician is not always an easy profession. In fact, it’s one that is notoriously difficult to make a living from.

One of the main reasons why most magicians are broke is because magic is an entertaining profession. And while it can be easy to make money from performing magic for people, it’s much more difficult to make a living from it.

Another reason why most magicians are broke is because magic is not a mainstream profession. In other words, it’s not something that a lot of people know about. This means that it’s difficult to get exposure.

And finally, one of the main reasons why most magicians are broke is because magic is not a passive profession. In other words, magicians have to be constantly working to keep their skills up to par. This means that they’re always busy traveling, teaching, and performing.

So, in short, the main reasons why most magicians are broke is because magic is an entertaining profession, it’s not a mainstream profession, and it’s a difficult profession to make a living from.

You might ask the same question about anyone in performing arts. Most of them are broke because despite entertaining people en masse, they don’t get paid enough at the end of the show.
Think like this. If you met someone who entertained you for two hours doing magic (or performing music, or reading poetry, or painting your portrait or interpreting some music in dance, or… you name it) and you bought them a drink for it… would that be adequate recompense for the entertainment value they gave you? It’s a genuine question.
Personally, that’s happened to me. Someone spent some time (about fifteen minutes) performing some awesome magic for me and my wife, and I bought him (figuratively) a drink. I actually gave him £5. He was grateful, it seemed fair. He moved on on did the same for another couple who might have done the same. Maybe for an hour of work he made £20, maybe more. It’s not bad for an amateur but for a pro it isn’t going to pay the mortgage, the fuel bills, or feed the family. £20 an hour is subsistence, not living.
The problem is it doesn’t scale up as it should.
If he performed the SAME fifteen minutes for ten people, why don’t they ALL “buy him a drink”? He’d be making £200 an hour.
The thing is, a lawyer can charge £200 an hour every hour of every working day, for handing out simple advice based on his skills and knowledge acquired during a period of training lasting maybe eight years. An entertainer can’t even get that for two hours three nights week, after practising all week for the shoe, after a lifetime of study, investment, rehearsal, and dedication.
Entertainment is woefully under-rewarded. Next time you’re at an event, sitting at a table with another five, seven or nine people, and a magician spends 15 minutes giving you all a good time, please encourage everyone at the table to chip in the price of a decent drink. The same goes for every other artist. Reward them directly. Don’t assume they’re getting a good fee… it’s probably tiny.
